Make sure to use the Overture.com search suggestion tool.
This can be found at overture.com > click advertisers > tools > search term suggestion tool
It basically acts as a simulator for the web browser address bar and is probably the most potent tool out there on the Net (I don't say that lightly).
Basically domains could be categorised into 2 types from the Overture tool:-
- type ins for existing web sites
- type ins where the surfer is "guessing" a web site.
This latter one spells BINGO!
There are a number of ways of using the tool:-
Let's take the phrase "domain name".
You can try:-
"domain name"
"domainname.com" (most returns)
"domain name.com" (with a space)
Thus keying in say games.com gives a lot of good suggestions.
Remember the duck rule - "if it walks like a duck..."
========
Remember that just because green is grass, this does not mean that grass is green.
Just because a domain is not in Overture, this does not mean it will not get type-ins.
Another area I am experimenting in is "adjective-noun" combos.
There is a tendecy to go for names only with big overtures but names like coolmobile.com get a fair few hits.
Right now anything over 200 for "domain name" for an adjective-noun combo I would go for as long as it passes the "duck" test.
Hope this helps!!
