he was smart to do so. it was before the height of the dot-com era, and it was Television.com. Later when he developed the portal and sold the domain, he got paid significantly more.

He sure has some fantastic names.

Thanks for the link Whois-Search - there's some interesting snippets in the guys spiel.

The guy definitely has made some smart moves....
For example, he turned down an $80k offer for television.com back in 1997, I think.

However, if he REALLY would have had the foresight, he should have sold all his names back in 1999, when the irrational dot-com frenzy was at its peak.

Do you have a link for this info? Not that I doubt you, but I'd love to read an article on this...

sorry, that wasnt from an article, it was from a personal conversation a couple years ago with Mike via email. And to be totally honest, I don't know for sure that he got paid a lot more when he sold/developed the portal, that was just something he implied. He refuses to discuss specific prices on anything, cuz of non-disclosure agreements.

Thanks, dragon. Great link and nice work.

Reading that 1999 article from our current timeframe, I'd say Mike probably got a poor return on his decision to go for equity.

Just visited the site, and a splash page promises that television.com is "coming soon."

Hmmmm......

P.S. You might have to cut and paste the URL for the article into your browser.

Ouch! Looks like Mike got a little too greedy. He must be kicking himself for not taking the money.

well.. that article is from '99 and a check of the Whois shows that Mike is still the owner of television.com

No doubt the domain is still very valuable. It would not suprise me to see it sell for $5 mil or more within the next 5 years.

on a related subject, i think C-net should do something more interesting and profitable with TV.com than what they are currently doing.

$1.1million for television.com? Are you sure? I cannot see it being worth that at all. 5 digits maybe, but over a mill? Me thinks he's bullshitting.

my mistake. I saw the five digits and thought h-a-v-e-n.com :dead: :embarrass:

But I still think it's worth at LEAST a million. It's got to be one of the top 50 domains in existance.... television.com that is.
