Hi All

if you see this number on your phone, don't answer.

they talk with a "garbled" message, trying to verify your whois info, specifically a fax number to send you some crap.

when they asked for mine, i asked "why you want to know".

and when i told them that the name is not registered with them, so why then are you calling me? ....they hung up

just fyi

Looks like social engineering in action.
Besides that number is not in service so it would have been spoofed.

Good one

I got the call too.
They hung up after only 25 minutes.
I toild them I wanted to renew 500 names with them.
I kept him on the phone while I was shaving.
Maybe the razor vibrating on the speaker was annoying him.
I think they said "Domain Registry of America". I get snail mail from them too.
How can they call from a disconnected number?

In general, I don't answer any toll free number calls. If the call is important, they will leave a message. 9 out of 10 toll free # calls are advertisements or possibly scams...

LOL. so true Varchar...one reason I like to use toll free numbers...let them leave a message and you will know if they are a potential customer (obviously get back to those asap)...I have also found that for one biz literally 100% of the leads I get thru a toll free number never convert :) They usually just have a lot of questions and require a lot of handholding but at least you seperate them from the other leads...

if i am not mistaken, paypal has called me several times in the past from an 800 number to verify some transactions.

as well, i've had a couple of buyers who have called from 800 numbers.

so initially, i wasn't expecting that.

but if it is "droa" then maybe it's time to let the dogs out! :)
