http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/10/eu_domain_cybersquatting_allegation/

Even the registry doesn't know the definition of a cybersquatter....

Deja vu anyone?
I saw that news on the net (circleID.mobi). This comes right on the heels of an additional 74,000 being seized by illegal registrars in China.

I am not sure this mess will ever be staightened out. They can seize the names but can only prosecute so far .eu or european citizens. 4 British citizens were nabbed a while back as a front company for tens of thousands .eu domains by setting up hundreds of bogus registries.

Here in the states, a handful of people did the same thing. More than 300,000 illegally registered domain names. But as far as I know, nothing has been done with these yet. Or perhaps they were seized.

EURid has got to be the worst conceived registry ever. Fraud, corruption, inept, and plain ol' DUMB from day one. I still have some pre-regs from early 2006 appearing in my accounts that still have never been awarded. And I can not cancel them because they are still showing PENDING status.

Actually the .eu is as good (or as bad) as .asia will be. Only 2 characters shorter.

I have to agree. Why someone thinks the asian continent needs to be identified with its own TLD is beyond me.

Specially on a continent where the word 'asia' is not recognised or used as the majority don't actually read / write or use English

To me, the complete opposite of how .mobi was rolled out.

Many .eu critics are using .mobi example how it was, actually, possible to launch extension the right way.

I did see another thread on this forum, perhaps you also saw it and were involved, where members from the "asian" nations were actually offended by it. One pointed out why not just call it .oriental.

I think someone believes this is going to tie all the individual countries together as one cohesive powerful entity to be reckoned with for global economy.
