May 29 - BRIDGEPORT- An 11-year-old girl, who police say was impregnated by a 75-year-old man, has given birth. A state Department of Children and Families spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday that the girl impregnated when she was 10 is now a mother. The girl and her infant are both in DCF custody.
"We will continue to be involved with her and the baby. Both are safe, said spokeswoman Joan Gurski.
She would not disclose the baby's gender.
Jimmy Kave, the alleged father of the child, is scheduled to appear at Superior Court on Thursday.
Kave, who had lived in the Harborview Towers senior citizen housing complex, is charged with six counts of first-degree sexual assault, eight counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree.
Kave is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.
Police said Kave, who was arrested April 17, admitted having sex on several occasions with the girl but claimed she had enticed him. If convicted of all charges, Kave could be sentenced to more than 100 years in prison.
Kave is accused of sexually assaulting the girl numerous times beginning in January 2001.
The girl's mother told police her daughter met Kave at Harborview Towers. She said her daughter would visit Kave at his apartment, and they would play games and go places together.
The lawyer for the doctor charged with failing to report to authorities that a 10-year-old girl had been impregnated said Tuesday he will ask a judge to dismiss the charge against his client.
Richard T. Meehan Jr., who represents Dr. Mukesh Shah, said he has filed a motion in Superior Court seeking the dismissal. He said there is not sufficient evidence or cause to justify prosecution of the doctor.
He said he expects a hearing on his motion to be held in July.
If convicted of the charge of failing to report the sexual abuse of the impregnated girl, Shah could be fined $500.
