That just goes to show you how greed gets to people when they come across a little money.

Biggest mistake he made was telling her about it.

No, the biggest mistake was him thinking the money was his or that he should receive a portion of it. He should have given it to the homeowner. He is a contractor hired to perform a job on her house. Why should he be entitled to any of the cash? In addition, why would any of the heirs to Dunn be entitled to any either? The house was sold since the depression era and the new homeowner, upon purchasing the house, owns everything in it.

I just thought about that (that he was a contractor)...I agree, the home owner should have got all of it...

Actually the heirs should.

If I hide $200k in my house today and 75 years later, and two owners from now, find my stash, does that mean my heirs should be entitled to that cash?

Usually when you purchase a house, you get the house and whatever is left inside it that the previous owners did not take with them.

Unless we know, that it was unintentionally left their. If your great great great grandfather owned shares of stock, and you were the only heir, wouldn't you deserve getting it.

Well, technically nobody owns their house. The government can sweep up any property they choose to - even if it is paid off.

Just give the money to the government so they can protect us from ourselves, I'm sure they can find something to do with it (besides of course giving it the people who need a 'bailout' or using it to pay off the massive national debt)

Maybe the money should go into the crooked banks who can use the $182,000 to create loans of $1,820,000 - or maybe it should bail out a crooked auto industry

The money belongs to the new owner legally. I saw it on a TV show :)
