It's been reported that 2games.com sold for $20,000.

I was under the impression that domain names with numbers and keywords in them can't sell and aren't worth buying.

What gives?

These sort of reports or rumors are baseless no stand value unless it's reported from a proper source.

I don't know if I'm allowed to mention the site but its a well known domain industry news site that publishes a weekly domain sales list.

Is this site full of it when it comes to domain sales numbers. I thought the site had a good rep.

This may or may not be true. One thing you will need to learn with domains is that many sales never make any sense. Seriously, I have scratched my head more than once over many domain sales in the last 5 years. How about business.la? It's a huge market, the buyers buy what they want. Some names might be worth more than we think but try to stick close to the domain name rules you'll see people mention in here and and you'll increase your chances of getting and selling more profitable names.

depends on the word and the number combination, some can be highly brandable like the example you gave, 2games.com, so I'm not surprised if a company would pay 20k to use that name.

I'm sorry to say this, but as a newbie, I didn't understand what you were saying.

Can someone translate for me?

Thanks,

Victoria

what they are alluding to is;

money laundering

but everyone who buys domains is not a domainer, they don't think within the same discriminatory ways that we do.

therefore they can see value in places, where some of you won't even look...

Money laundering? LOL.

Really Biggedon is very right here. The world of domains is much much bigger than the world of domainers. And a domain that holds no value for someone, holds an immense value for someone who will use it.

Larger your perspective, don't think in boxes people!

I agree with this person. I have had ppl look down their noses at me at some of the domains that I have and then I realized that these were domainers just as I was and they were looking at the big ticket items. Think bigger than the word domain and you'll be in for some might fine treats.

When hydrogen replaces oil as the primary fuel in cars and in fact even before then....as we start gearing up for a new hydrogen energy economy we will see many domains with "H2" in them....it will start in less than a year from now imho.
