I thought it might be interesting to create a "scorecard" on how folks did in 2004, compared to prior years. Since no one will want to reveal their absolute revenues, I've made the calendar year 2002 be a base of "1 banana".
For me, the past couple of years have shown good growth:
2002: 1 banana
2003: 3 bananas
2004: 15 bananas
Thus, a 400% increase in the past year, compared to 2003. That's a lot of bananas. arty:
Looking forward to 2005, I should be able to see the banana bucks double. But, my goal is to quadruple them (perhaps a bit ambitious, but with hard work and a bit of luck, I might be able to do it).
To achieve this, I plan to develop more of my domains. This will increase my costs in 2005, but I'm betting it'll lead to greater growth compared to the current trendline. I'd like to have at least 3 more sites in the Alexa Top 100,000 sites next year (math.com is already there).
I'd also hope to grow through quality, not quantity (I still have under 500 domain names total, acquiring under 120 domains in 2004). I doubt I will go above 1000 domains (or, banana plantations arty: ) total in the next two years. I also want to be careful to stay diversified, and not be overexposed to any single niche.
How has everyone else done this past year, and what's your outlook for 2005?
