Last week's Domain Roundtable Conference was the 6th major conference in the past 6 months. Could there possibly be anything new left to talk about ? Were there any new faces left to see? Could DRT's new owner, Thought Convergence, come up with any surprises that would make them stand out in the conference crowd? The answers are in DN Journal's new comprehensive show review:

Great pictures and excellent coverage as usual Ron. thanks.

I find it so ironic and difficult to understand what with all the negativity, the economy, ppc dropping so much (at least 65% declines for many domainers) plus other bad news there are more and more domain conferences scheduled and by a number of different companies and auction venues.

You've stated the reason in describing the irony. There's money in the auctions. There's money in admission fees to conventions. There's money in getting a piece of the hotel bookings. These days, there's more money in sponsoring domainer conventions than ppc schemes. That's why you'll see, proportionally, an increase in attempts to sponsor conventions while ppc revenue declines. Eventually, of course, the convention market will become (if not already) over-saturated. At that point, you'll see the next incarnation of "monetization", whatever that may be. When the typo-squatters, cybersquatters, snake-oil salesmen, pitchmen, hoarders, flippers, and hucksters pack of their tents and move on down the road, the playing field will be open for really usefull development. When desperate, lazy bottom-feeders are unable to make fortunes off of domains because of worldwide illiteracy and the inability of many netizens to properly spell, then real developers will have a shot at making the Internet what is was envisioned to be by Jon Postel.

If only 'Domainers' understand what Broe-Foe knows, there will be no 'herd' chasing the dubious shepherd. They sure get led to congregate and feed on false dreams. Next stop - The slaughter house.

Look back on a good percentage of past auction sales. The new owners are sitting on names not worth the prices paid for. And will perhaps NEVER recoup their investment in this lifetime.

A true sale is a name sold for a real life business model.

If any 'NEWBIE' wants to make make money in domaining...

Lesson #1 - Shut your ears and dim the noise. A secret revealed is not a secret.
Lesson #2 - See, but don't believe. When you see magic, It's gotta be a 'Trick'.
Lesson #3 - Seek your own truth. There are NO prophets in this industry.
Lesson #4 - Be there first. Don't follow. Else, you will get the crumbs.
Lesson #5 - Be your own expert. How? Go figure! Or you didn't get #1-4 at all.

I just found a typo in my above writing: "... hucksters pack of ..." should read "... hucksters pack up ..."

There's another - Usefull should be 'Useful'.

We all make them typos. No wonder domainers, (including me in the past) buy them.
