Hi
in an effort to provide an answer...
prices fluctuate down, typically when the owners are willing to sell at a price, below the cost for what they paid for them.
the reasons would be ignorance, desperation, hardship, liquidating or they just need funds now for a better domain and are willing to sacrifice.
but if you look at the overall picture, the long range roi has been consistently going up as the years go by.
there may have been periods of stagnation, but the prices keep pushing the envelope
when i joined dnf, lll.coms were selling for around $200 >$500 , now the lowest recent prices may be $3k to $4K
one thing i have noticed is that pricing on nnn.com has never went down, though it's increase in price was slower than lll, now it has a market where price maximums are totally unpredictable
even lll.org prices are up in comparision to many lll.net, which seem to be experiencing a slower growth period
but a lot of final sales prices has to do with "who" owns the domain and the resources and knowledge of each respective domainer, rather than a pricing guide.
imo...
