Hi guys
im new to domain trading. There are several things that keep me wondering. For example, why should people spend money on buying 3 or 4 letters domain name?
I heard ppl said that it could worth several hundred dollar each. But why should they buy them if it ddoesnt represent their company name or keyword included. Like qwjk.com qqwa.com swtd.com something like this. Does that really worth hundreds dollars? %+|

three letter domains are rare (especially easy to remmember ones)and some like a short domain for portals and what not, supply and demand is key for 3 letters. I wouldnt fall for hype about 4 letter coms I dont think they will amount to much unless abbreviations for something or a word made up or not.

i just checked my 2 nd try hdqa.com is available

All three letter domains are already taken for the iTLDs that’s what makes them valuable. 4 letters .com doesn’t have any value for them selves unless they are a typo of a domain (and therefore get some traffic) or an abbreviation of an important firm (and even then they could still worth nothing).

in my opinion, a name like SCDA.com is better than QZU.com

South Carolina Doctor's Association vs. Quiet Zebra University...

4 letter .coms arent worth as much as 3. they wil be woth something once the 4 letters are all gone... but that can take quite some time. in 10 years they will be worth alot...

I agree.

Although this might change if the Chinese start paying high prices for domains, as Q and Z are common in Chinese (U not common to begin a word with though, I think).

firemutt: Personally, I think the risk/benefit factor of hoping for good prices in 10 years for domains paid for now and renewed for 10 years isn't very good, especially if they are "poor quality" 4 letter domains.

People have bought out different types of short letter domain names and after they have run out the demand becomes greater than supply and the value of the domain lifts. I don't think that a random 4 letter domain name will provide much PPC income but I think that they will go up in value after they run out. From what I understand, there are around 54000 available 4 letter domains and around 450000 possible combinations. I think that they will run out in the next 3 years (possibly the next 12 months) and I think that if you bought some just before they run out and sell them 12 months later you could double your money easily. Once it starts getting down to the last 20000 domain names, it is possible that some big purchasers may buy the rest.

Some people have no interest in 4 letter domain names but the truth is that around 400000 of them have been purchased and that says a lot!!!

Possibly the biggest selling point of short domain names is the reduced variability in price. If you buy a short domain name at a reasonable price then you can be sure that if you don't like it you can sell it at short notice and get 50% of your money back. There is a steady market for different types of short domain names and many domain name traders decide to specialise their attention to short domain names for this very reason that the prices are a lot more predictable.
