Due to release delays of Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, the company will utilize developers from its Xbox division to get the OS back on track. From the article: "Up to 60% of the code in the new consumer version of Microsoft new Vista operating system is set to be rewritten as the Company 'scrambles' to fix internal problems a Microsoft insider has confirmed to SHN. In an effort to meet a deadline of the 2007 CES show in Las Vegas Microsoft has pulled programmers from the highly successful Xbox team to help resolve many problems associated with entertainment and media center functionality inside the OS."

This says a lot about Microsoft's competence to lead an industry. Anyone arguing that it's to make it more secure with a 60% rewrite is fooling themselves. This is a total REDO!

Moral of the story, don't buy Vista for at least a year after it comes out.

Its the DRM.

The enterprise version is not crippled by DRM and has not being delayed. All the hints that are coming out say it is about "security" and multimedia etc.

They have to get HDCP working and that means keeping the user out of the "trusted" parts of the operating system while at the same time not breaking applications. Not an easy task.

It's nice to hear that Microsoft may finally be taking code quality seriously.
So far end users have always been unwitting beta testers.

XP is pretty good.

Windows 98 was the worst.

98 wasn't THAT bad.. XP also has some pretty big flaws, (such as the one I like to call the automated shitbot, which opens up endless browser windows). I think cross-scripting needs to go in the next OS.

One thing is certain. The penguins are not staying still during the vista delays.
