That's good news! .de is the second largest TLD after .com what emphasizes
once again that Germany is a domaining country. Let's go for 10M now. :)

Yet compared to .co.uk names they are very cheap, there are to many cyber sitters on the decent .co.uk names but there are some nice .de names at reasonable prices.

Actually, dot de generally go for a lot more than dot co.uk.

What exactly is the distinction between a speculator and cyber sitter as you put it? Cyber squatting refers to the owner of a domain over which someone else has trademark rights. Presumably a cyber sitter is any domain that you cast an envious eye over?

Actually, from where I am sitting the biggest impediment to transactions in dot co.uk is the Arcane transfer system that has been so bureaucratically implemented by Nominet which results in consequently high transaction costs at Sedo. I am frankly disillusioned with dot co.uk and would clear my selection of about a 100 domains as a job lot at a reasonable price, if any one wants to PM me.

The main difference is that most German companies use ccTLDs whereas British companies go for gTLDs. You don't find many top ranking companies in the UK with with a dot co.uk.

Thats right, in Germany you normally see only .de Domains.
A .com or .net printed on a Car or in Newspaper is nearly exotic, but that do not means that the companies do not register them. The companies register always or mostly all what they can get, but use mostly the .de.
I remember that I had a statistic of registered .de Domains compared with connected Hosts and Parked domains, when I will find it I will publish it here.

Yes, I agree with all that!

I think when people start talking about domains being easily available in dot de, they can only be registering English Keywords, which of course won't generally hold a lot of value in a dot de. Although, dot de is the number two registry, it is still a ccTLD and rather than a gTLD. Only, a few very internationised keywords will have much of a market in a dot de. A good reality check would be to use the following Overture Keyword tool rather than the dot com version
