Hi. I posted about this on the GoDaddy discussion this morning, but now it involves another registrar. Here's what happened, and I would be glad of any advice I can get:

This morning I registered some co.uk domains with GoDaddy, but a while after they had sent me the acceptance they wrote again saying they couldn't reach the contact and so the domains weren't registered to me. They said they would try again later but then refund, which would take around a day.

Having posted on the forum, it seemed as if this was specifically a GoDaddy problem, so I went onto a UK site and managed to successfully register the domains. I assumed that when GoDaddy tried to reregister they would be unsuccessful and would refund.

I was half-thinking that maybe the UK people would also send me a rejection later, but instead what did I get but mail from GoDaddy telling me that they had successfully registered the domains for me.

So now I've paid two people to register the domains. The Whois says they were registered by Nominet. Would this be for any co.uk name, or is it because I went through a UK site? Do I have to be at the loss of the double registration fee because I went ahead with the UK site after GoDaddy wrote to me at the start? Did I have some sort of contract with them at that stage? If so, did that not put me at risk of losing the domains by waiting?

I would be very glad of your comments.

In my experience Godaddy is behind the curve on co.uk reg's and the way they communicate that to you - them confirming a successful reg and later finding thats not the case. They will eventually realize the error and refund but I would suggest just calling them up and telling them that they took so long that you regged elsewhere and when can you get your refund. If anything, their customer service is good enough to refund you instantly.

You think? Thanks, replic8ate. I'm in Ireland, so ringing is out of the question. I'll email them, though. :)

True. Thanks, Petrosc. I sometimes forget that small blue phone is hanging there beside me. :)
