So I'm at work configuring Wifi cards on some laptops and I notice about half a dozen unsecured networks that are visible - 1-3 bar range (probably better outside of my dungeon). They all also have the default network name for a router I'm well versed in.
Hmmm..
Connect to one, no problem. Time for some fun. Type in the routers IP address and enter in the default admin login and password. Guess what? I'm in, muhahaha!! Configure the router to block all access except for my laptop. Change the default login and password.
Repeat that paragraph with each unsecured network.
Configure my laptop as a gateway so that all the others in the office can use my laptop as a router and connect to the private networks.
Now, we have full access to the unsecured networks. Go to bad sites, illegal sites, etc. Make them go over their bandwidth limie for the month in a matter of hours.
Let this be a lesson. What shall we learn?
1) Alawys change the name of your wireless network.
2) Always secure your own wireless network
3) CHANGE THE ADMIUN PASSWORD.
Please note: I only did what's in the very first paragraph (before the hmmm...) , work on the cards and see the networks, thats it, the rest is just fantasy. but a lesson to teach to everyone. It could be worse than that, much worse.
