Personal details of more than a million bank customers have been found on a computer sold on eBay!

Information on American Express, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland customers were found on the computer's hard drive.

The data includes names, addresses, mobile phone numbers, bank account numbers, sort codes, credit card numbers, mothers' maiden names and even signatures.

It comes just days after the Home Office admitted confidential information on every prisoner in the country has been lost.

And it was revealed that more than 3,200 laptops and mobile phones containing sensitive information have gone missing or have been stolen from Government departments since 2001.

Wait until the government fingerprints you.
Then the full will begin.

I'm glad my company saves personal and sensitive information on servers and not on the computers. It makes me wonder why companies still keep information like this locally on computers?

It's funny to see how Americans are traditionally wary of government (well they used to be...) while they will gladly confess their life details in exchange for a loyalty card ;)
Government is not stupid, they outsource the collection of personal data to the private sector instead.

Actually you can't trust Big Brother but Big Business is not less dangerous.

Exactly, why do they keep so much data locally in the first place.
A data breach could always take place though (disgruntled employee) so you need to take steps to mitigate the problem before it ever happens, like having an emergency plan and of course encrypting data.
