Time Zone Definitions
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)

The mean solar time of the meridian of Greenwich, England. GMT is used as the basis of standard time throughout the world (also known as Zulu Time).

Standard Time

The time of a region or country that is established by local customs. There are 24 Standard Time zones, each identified by the number of hours earlier or later than Greenwich time.

Eastern Standard Time (EST)

The time of the 5th Standard Time zone west of Greenwich that includes the eastern US.

Daylight Savings Time (DST)

Time one hour ahead of standard time. DST in the US runs from the first Sunday in April until the last Sunday in October.

Conversion from EST to GMT:

During DST (April to October): Add 4 hours

Otherwise: Add 5 hours

you want a simple answer based on GMT?

EST is GMT-5

so, If you were GMT+2, EST is 7 hours behind. very simple really, no need for complicated calculations.
also, EST servers mostly north East America.
