A domain was on auction that I really wanted and I would have been ecstatic to get it. It was the .com of a .net I own (and have a running site on).
Sadly, the domain went WAY over my budget for the domain (initially $150 - I boosted it up to $200). It sold for $376 at TDNAM. Not bad for it.
So, I'm disappointed that I didn't get the name especially since it was registered in 1997 and had that date still in tact.
I could tell that bidder #6 was a domainer. He jumped in when the domain hit $100 and always bid trying to snipe (anti snipe was in effect - any bids with less than 2 minutes left extended the auction by 2 minutes). He also seemed to bid in small increments - $20 here, $30 there, $5 here etc.
Bidder #5 ended up getting it so I'm guessing they set a reasonable (for them) high price - and ended up winning the price.
IMO the price was past resell value and was getting into end user price range so I think it might have been a broker - I'm hoping I know who got it. If it is this person who got it, then I won't mind since they won't use it for unethical means (like so many domains in this niche).
So, I didn't get the domain which was a bummer but I think I am still coming out as a winner. Why?
1) This means my .net could sell for $40-$165 (depending on who is buying). That's better than I expected - even though I got it though a drop (for $60).
2) This also means that I have the money available to develop a site that has been on hold solely because of this auction. I had a set budget for both and I would have hated to spend $200 on the domain (but the other site would have been doable with that).
