A domain was on auction that I really wanted and I would have been ecstatic to get it. It was the .com of a .net I own (and have a running site on).

Sadly, the domain went WAY over my budget for the domain (initially $150 - I boosted it up to $200). It sold for $376 at TDNAM. Not bad for it.

So, I'm disappointed that I didn't get the name especially since it was registered in 1997 and had that date still in tact.

I could tell that bidder #6 was a domainer. He jumped in when the domain hit $100 and always bid trying to snipe (anti snipe was in effect - any bids with less than 2 minutes left extended the auction by 2 minutes). He also seemed to bid in small increments - $20 here, $30 there, $5 here etc.

Bidder #5 ended up getting it so I'm guessing they set a reasonable (for them) high price - and ended up winning the price.

IMO the price was past resell value and was getting into end user price range so I think it might have been a broker - I'm hoping I know who got it. If it is this person who got it, then I won't mind since they won't use it for unethical means (like so many domains in this niche).

So, I didn't get the domain which was a bummer but I think I am still coming out as a winner. Why?

1) This means my .net could sell for $40-$165 (depending on who is buying). That's better than I expected - even though I got it though a drop (for $60).

2) This also means that I have the money available to develop a site that has been on hold solely because of this auction. I had a set budget for both and I would have hated to spend $200 on the domain (but the other site would have been doable with that).

That's sad and good news to hear.
I normally don't like bumping the price up and showing that theres competition then the last day or so ii'll bid on it.
I don't want to show that im interested also and make the other people bid a little amount.
Anyways :)

Yep. I had a feeling this would happen when someone put a $10 bid 2 days into the auction. It stayed at $10 until this morning.

Oh I guess everyone was actually waiting.
Lol it could be a good thing staying @ $10 or it could be a bad thing everyone waiting till the last moment cause they don't want to pay alot.

Is it normal for the WhoIs to take this long to update? I'm interested in seeing who got the domain but it shows the old owner. Could they just be waiting for a payment?

The domain was picked up by SynergyTech (dot) com. eCommerce and marketing.

According to domain tools they own over 8,000 domains. I'm depressed to see where it went to unless they have a reputable client who wanted it.

Laekenois.com - low Google results, keyword ads are very low paying, if they even exist, not a popular breed of dog, I think the big seller was the age (12 years old now) if it isn't someone who wanted a site for the breed of dog.
