it says there are 37,997 members to dnforum- but doesnt the forum like drop a membership with no activity for like a year?- or is people who have not used the frum in 2 years still being counted as a "member"

take "member" cay1616- has not been on since 2005!

shouldnt all these accounts that have not been active for over a year be removed and cleaned out- to give a better idea how many active members we have? i bet it is half what it is showing-

sounds like a good idea.

would definitely give clearer stats for DNforum, but maybe Adam wants the "illusion" of a larger forum upon first glance

I'm all for getting this place cleaned up. It could be on the update list as the site gets redone, but lower down as there are more important items to take care of first.

What if cay1616 was a lifetime member, and decides to start domaining again from tomorrow? Its always good to retain the member accounts for several reasons.

I agree - memberships here are lifetime, there is no condition that you have to be active in order to keep your membership status

Hm, I think that the forum or the forum active members won't gain anything from cleaning the forum up from any inactive memebrs.
If knowing how much the active ones have been over some period of time is really important, it will be easier to implement a new feature showing it.

Sorry lifetime memberships are just that, lifetime. The accounts should not be purged because as previously mentioned, someone may get out of the business and decide to get back in it several years later. Sure there could be "active" and "inactive" member status, but who really cares. We should be focusing on domains and making money, not how many "active" members there are on the forum.

It's all for marketing purposes anyways. Take NP for example. How many posts do you think they have with the word "bump" in it. They have the most posts but it can be asked are these posts "quality" posts.

Same goes for DNF. If they really wanted to, they could fill the database with fake members to make the forum look ten times as large. It wouldn't be honest of them to, and would probably take six months to get it done since they handle so many services, but in the long run it is just a number.

You can't purge accounts; they are associated with posts.

Why quoting me and saying sorry? I'm on your side here... :)

what if someone's sick or on vacation for a long while? does he/she just lose the money paid for the "lifetime" membership?
What is the point of removing members? does the number bother you? as far as I know, idle members do NOT interfere with our normal activity on DNF.

i didnt mean for this to be a sides thing- i guess i just saw this differently- i can see how everyone else sees it- so i know when i am odd man (woman) out, to slowly back away from the keyboard-

people keep bringing up taking away lifetime memberships- if anyone would just read the thread you will see in post 5 that i said i understand lifetimers paid to be lifetime, active or not- yet, that point keeps being brought up ;-(

sometimes when you ask a question people feel the need to jump your throat because its real easy to act that way behind a computer screen- but, i am not even going to go any further to explain why i asked, because the tribe has spoken- nobody cares...

its ok- this is a forum, and someone said to me earlier, ask a question - be prepared to be smashed. smashed it was- :smash:

i don't think its a good IDEA even for ppl who havent paid for membership and for ppl who have paid its impossible i think + what harm do inactive members accounts do ? they don't spam or anything so whats the point ?
