Hi
I dont know much about subdomains. I see many people selling names promoting the subdomain as well.

If I own lose.net

Does it make sense also to set up C.lose.net? Will the Search engines not look at the . ? that is what it seems like I am reading.

Also if I have 1-3.net will it read like 13 to the search engines?

Thanks for any suggestions.

1-3.net reads like "1 3"... A "-" to a search engine is equivalent to a space.

I'm pretty sure c.lose.net is the same as close.net but I am not 100% sure.

Subdomains are usually regarded as separate websites. C.Lose.net won't be seen as close I'm afraid.

However if you optimize your c.lose subdomain for close, then it is a chance indeed to rank for this keyword.

I've never heard of a domain hack that gets ranked for the hacked keyword.
If you have any such evidence that this is possible please provide a link.

If you try close.lose.net and then SEO that sub-domain for close you will have a greater chance to rank for keyword close.

(this is a very broad answer to a multifaceted SEO question)

Spot on! :eek:k:

I'm afraid there is no verdict here. Your example is hmm... a site with nearly 46 million backlinks. Try copying that :)

Technically even if your site looks like c.lose.net you can still optimize the "C" subdomain for the keyword "close". Now go and get 46 million backlinks and will surely rank for that ;)

Ok what about this question..

What about a word.lose.com

weight.lose.com

would weight and lose be two search terms to the engines?

like lose weight or does it have to be in that order.

From my experience no. The first word would get the ranking. Although I am open to believing that there may be some extra added value with both words and would be happy to see some evidence that supports that claim.

I suggest, if you own lose.com, you use subdirectories with keywords for directory names,

Ex: lose.com/weight/fat-loss.php

Good original content will help your rise in the battle to the top and bring in traffic.

I agree, subdomains are viewed as completely different sites with completely different domains.
c.lose.net
weight.lose.net

Would be two seperate sites in terms of SEO but..

lose.net/c
lose.net/weight

Would both rank from lose.net and help the overall ranking for the site itself.
