For the past 2 days, I have been earning a VERY low amount per click at Adsense.

Before this I was making at least 10 times this much....

has anyone else had the same problems?

Yep, I think they pay you whatever they wish. One day I will average 5 cents per click and the next day $3 per click. The funny thing is that it serves the exact same ads everyday so I am not sure what is with the inconsistencies.

depends on what the advertiser is paying per click. The bids on adcents change all the time. If you have a casino related site you can make a lot more than on an info site, becuase of the bids ...

Google TOS state that you are not allowed to discuss earnings, stats, etc., so you probably shouldn't be mentioning specific money amounts.

I am assuming this is something to do with their smart advertising changes which they announced today. Advertisers will pay less and publishers will earn less...

FWIW, my numbers appear to be stable. But then just a couple days don't mean much as Google stats (for me anyway) can go way up or way down normally just in day to day variation. So they could appear to be stable because they are stable, or maybe I'll be earning a lot less than I have but these days were good days, or maybe I'll earn more than I have but these days were low days. Hard to tell.

The changes Google announced do not necessarily mean that publishers will earn less. It said that the closer the pages match the kinds of content that drives more valuable traffic the advertisers' way, the more you make. The opposite is also true.

So, basically, the same kinds of algorithm changes that can make your site be listed higher or lower in Goolge for certain terms can now also happen to your ad payments. They are specifically trying to lower sites that aren't as good. There'll be some winners and losers.
