Seems that enough partners complained (or perhaps too much money going out the door!) so Google are now overturning the adult ban on the direct AdSense feed. A sensible decision for all concerned.

Google Message below:

"As you know, we at Google are constantly working to improve the experiences of advertisers, users, and AdSense partners. Based on that, we previously announced the planned sunsetting of adult domains from the AdSense for Domains program.

Today, having received further feedback from partners and advertisers, we are contacting you to announce that we will no longer be sunsetting adult domains from the AdSense for Domains program. You may continue to keep your existing adult domains in your AdSense for Domains portfolio, and add any adult domains you acquire to your AdSense for Domains portfolio.

We are committed to maintaining a positive experience for end users and advertisers, in addition to partners. We have determined that continuing to allow adult domains in the program will be beneficial for advertisers and users, and our domain partners. In the coming months, we will continue to improve our policy on the technical implementation of adult domains, but we will continue to allow adult domains in the program for the forseeable future.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, patience, and cooperation during our policy changes.

Thank you,

Here are some FAQs for your reference. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Thank you,
Victor

Q: What changes are you making to AFD policy?
A: We are amending our policy on adult domains to allow the continued presence of adult domains in the AdSense for Domains program.

Q: Didn't you recently say you were sunsetting the inclusion of adult domains from AFD?
A: This change supersedes our earlier announcement that we would be sunsetting the inclusion of adult domains in the AFD program.

Q: Why are you making this change?
A: We are committed to maintaining a positive experience for end users and advertisers, in addition to AdSense for Domains partners. We have determined that continuing to allow adult domains in the program will be beneficial for advertisers, users, and our domain partners.

Q: Can I add more domains at a later date?
A: You may continue to keep your existing adult domains in your AdSense for Domains portfolio, and add any adult domains you acquire to your AdSense for Domains portfolio.

Q: What's next? / Are you sure you won't re-reverse this change?
In the coming months, we will continue to improve our policy on the technical implementation of adult domains, but we will continue to allow adult domains in the program for the forseeable future.

Q: What's an 'adult domain' anyway?
A: Adult domains are domains whose name, content, or advertising includes adult content—i.e., any content that refers to or suggests nudity, partial nudity, sexual imagery/acts, lewd/graphic or profane language."

It's too big of a steak to lose. If they don't do it, plenty of others will be more than happy to do it. Obviously a lot of predators were glaring covetously for that moment.
They can't change the human instinct.

As we smut pushers already saw, Google adult advertisers and publishers already started jumping ship. It will take some time to recover from this snafu.

google had to flush the system.

it was the best way to actually see who and how much was involved in adult ads. they probably couldn't get that info so easy if they asked for it.

now that they know who is and how much $ is involved, they can execute "Plan C".

"out-the-box thought"

I expect google to take mfa and do a makeover for publishers.

Very interesting. I didn't see this one coming. Not that I own any adult names anyway :)
