"Afilias has a strong track record of adhering to ICANN policies"

LOL

"Afilias is proposing a promotional rate of $1.00 for the first domain year of new registrations."

Gosh where have we seen this before....

ICANN's $.75 per domain year fee.

Can anyone tell me what if anything ICANN has done or proposes to do to earn that fee? Frickin pigs is all they are. The DoC should have dumped them a loooooong time ago.

The dot info madness is all starting to make somekind of sense. It seems to have been a lost leader to put Afilias in pole position to get the dot net registry, which is well established and frankly a little neglected. It would seem they intend to acquire this and then take on dot com's supremacy.

It is a long shot, but it might just work. As just about every piece of utter garbage outside the IDN field has already been registered as a dot com, the time must be ripe for a serious rival to establish itself. It looks as though dot info has been little more than a Trojan Horse.

GeorgeK posted this in dnfo**. But here's a copy:

http://www.icann.org/tlds/net-rfp/applications/verisign.htm

VeriSign is now working with Bruce Tonkin, one of the Registrar Constituency's representatives to the GNSO Council, to facilitate the process of developing a solution for an industry-wide com/net deleted names handling process, which facilitates an open auction during the pending delete period.

In January 2005, VeriSign will begin surveying end users in the Internet community to get input on various types of auction house solutions and price sensitivity for deleted name auctions. VeriSign anticipates providing the feedback received from end users, along with a revised deleted names proposed auction model in February 2005. The proposed model will be further vetted with registrars and other stakeholders to ensure that it adequately addresses the needs of registrars, registrants, and other impacted parties.

Hmm hmm!!!! :disappoin
