In our Lowdown column last night we reported that Afternic was about to be sold to NameMedia. The official word came today:

http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20061128005862&newsLang=en

Excerpts:
Pete Lamson, the Senior Vice President for NameMedia’s marketplace business, said “The Afternic acquisition advances our leadership position in creating an efficient marketplace for small and medium businesses to acquire domain names and insure a compelling digital identity.” Roger Collins and Michael Collins, who head Afternic’s executive team, will remain as leaders of the Afternic business. Lamson said that NameMedia intends to maintain both the Afternic and BuyDomains brands and trading platforms. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Afternic will remain in its Florida headquarters.

I just get informed about this purchase by my friend at BuyDomains.com

Great move!

Name Media is becoming a GIANT.

Probably this may involve BIG changes in the domain aftermarket within the next months...

Let see what will happen.

Congrats to Roger & Michael Collins for the sale!

This explains the recent shake up at Afternic e.g. ban on adult names. I also heard that another domain market leader Sedo was acquired.

That explains why Sedo's employees didn't feel like going to work each day?

AdLink, the online advertising and digital marketing subsidiary of Germany's United Internet, said this week it borrowed €35M to boost its stake in Sedo, which provides domain-name services. AdLink bought an additional 24 percent of Sedo - it already owned 52 percent -- and now owns 76 percent of the company, according to press announcements it made this week.
