As far as I know, the EU domain body stated that they don't allow any pre-bookings, and that any registrar that sells you pre-booking, is selling you a hot air.

really, there are NO .eu registrar that are approved.

By submitting the 'pre-pre orders' you are not only getting hot air, but are supplying some companies of pre compiled 'good names' that are wanted, so that they will probably get the most wanted ones for themselves.

Yet another 'conspiracy theory' of mine :)

ok, but is there any official newsletter I can sign up to, so I can get the news before it starts, and what registrars I should go to? Thanks

Just a quote from the link above.

Can I pre-register for a .eu domain name?

Pre-registration of .eu domain names is not possible in the .eu Top Level Domain.

Names cannot be registered until the Registry is in operation (cf. answer under "When...?"). Applications will then need to be made through registrars who have been formally accredited by the .eu Registry.

The Commission is aware however that some companies are offering to "pre-register" or "reserve" domain names, essentially by offering to make an application for the registration of a domain name to registrars as soon as the registration process is formally initiated.

Given the risks for confusion "pre-registration" services are not recommended by the Commission. In any case consumers and companies are encouraged to check exactly what is and what is not being offered.
