For SEO purposes is it better to have anchor text for an exact match or a phrase, such as:

I'm looking to buy a new [three piece suit in New York].

or

I'm looking to buy new [three piece suit] in New York.

Both for GEO purposes and for e-retailers (rank for three piece suits and suits in New York, will one work for NY only and the other work for just three piece suits or is Google smart enough to rank them for the GEO and product).

Thanks! :)

Google isn't that picky, I've seen utter garbage rank well for no reason whatsoever :D But generally, you link text as if it were important (think of it as bolding it). So if it's important to emphasize the location, you include the NYC in the link. If not, use the second method.

I use SEOPressor which automatically targets 3 keywords and makes the links bold (or stand out somehow) containing the keyword, but should it be a phrase with a geo or a generic like "three piece suit" only?

I'm saying should I use a money keyword like: "...there are many places to purchase [three piece suits] in New York City..." or an anchor text with an added a geo to it "...there are many places to purchase [three piece suits in New York City]...".

Would using the money keyword only (possibly getting me penalized) and give me the benefit for ranking in NYC or is it better to use a phrase with the geo attached?

"money" keywords?

no such thing

write the content naturally and bold that phrase in a paragraph, title or even a link...so that it's within the logical flow of the message/info being conveyed.

forget about being so conscious of what others say G will penalize you for

check > organicwinecompany com

ranking for " organic wine trends" " organic wine growing methods" "organic wine company"

no tools, no scripts, no plugins, no wordpress, just notepad

of course there is such a thing. but you've basically suggested the same thing in that you should make sure the backlink profile looks natural.

yeah, but I don't call em money keywords, it's just a natural process that has been assigned new catch phrase.

so it escaped me

forgive me for being meta

Various anchor text including synonyms and read more here, click here ect would be better in emd as you are already getting a bump from the domain. When they get indexed and seen in G then hit the emd with apx 5% exact match anchor text with high PRs. (it may only take a few links)
