Hi,
Back in the day when Apple inc and Cisco where battling for the domain rights for iphone.com which Cisco owned.
Everyone (at least every major industry publication) thought it was ALL about the name/branding and the domain name.
I posted in a few places that these people where NOT seeing the BIG picture.
NO company has ever been a close partner or got inside the 'magic house' that is Apple Inc.
I knew the 3 year on again off again battle....was much more than met the eye.
Cisco wanted into the Apple empire to collaborate on technologies and business.
Looks like it is just starting....This collaboration should grow into one of the most powerful on earth....as far a s "tech" is concerned in the future,
To date NO company...that I know of has been let into the Apple inter circle.
Even AT&T is NOT "IN" ...they just have an 'outside'.....outsourced relationship with Apple providing the Iphone network service.
But, Cisco...IMHO...Has made it through the Apple 'front door' and they are not just staying for a 'weekend visit'
Anyway...this is just the start...I think between the two company's in the next months and years...we will see some unbelievable things come out of their collaborations.
As always...IMHO
Point is.... ALL the 'smart people' did not have a clue what the Iphone.com domain odyssey was REALLY all about. The iphone.com TM and rights where just 'Ciscos Leverage'....For much, much bigger things. The 'real deal had almost nothing to do with two companys going at it over just a domain name.
Of course Apple would have preferred to just buy the domain for $10 or $15 Million....But Cisco...made them see thing their way.
A beautiful move on Ciscos part!

Cisco Enhances the Mobile Collaboration Experience With the iPhone
Tuesday 01/06/2009 4:00 PM ET - Market Wire
Highlights / Key Facts:
-- Out of the office or on the move no longer means out of the loop. Cisco
(NASDAQ: CSCO) is extending its web conferencing and collaboration
capabilities to the Apple iPhone 3G user experience, with Cisco WebEx
Meeting Center and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace.
-- The new Cisco WebEx meetings iPhone application, which is available for
free download from the AppStore, allows users to simply click to join and
actively collaborate in CiscoWebEx meetings. With Cisco WebEx Meeting
Center application on the iPhone, users can view what's being shared, see
the meeting participant list, see the active speaker and chat with other
meeting participants.
-- The online meeting experience gives users the ability to take advantage
of simultaneous web and audio conferencing capabilities from Cisco on both
the 3G mobile and 802.11 wireless (Wi-Fi) networks. The solution supports
multiple telephony configurations including SaaS-based telephony from Cisco
WebEx Meeting Center, premises-based telephony from Cisco Unified
MeetingPlace, or telephony from Cisco's service provider partners. The
download is free from the AppStore. Users need to have current
subscriptions to the WebEx services to schedule or host a meeting.
-- A future version of the solution will include Cisco WebEx Meeting
Center as well as the ability to see meeting participants and the active
speaker from Cisco Unified MeetingPlace. Users will be able to move
in-session Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace
conferences from the Apple iPhone 3G to an office environment and back, by
transferring the audio to a Cisco Unified IP Phone and the web conference
to a computer for a rich collaboration experience.
