The last few submitted appraisals have got to be some the lamest domains I have ever heard in my life.

No offense to any of the submitters.

Maybe it's time to be a little less self creative and think globally when it comes to choosing your domain.

****MeRunnin.com //would be a better choice than anything I've seen on this board as of late.

Its available!

Cheers!

Are you sure it wasn't your making 50+ posts a day and changing you birthday each day to the current day just to get your user name on the first page. You're probably the reason that feature was turned off when I took over. Cut the crap.

Thanks 2003
I'll cool my jets.

I guess it was the "electricgentlemen" thread that got me going.

Cheers!

I kind of have to admit there are better domains listed under "expiring domains", recent drops section; example :http://dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=119490#post119490

than under the appraisal section :(

That's why I have stopped offering valuations. It is interesting how a "cool newbie" had the wits to bring this up.

Mudfence you need to hang out at Expired Domains to attract whom you call "snipers". :)

Cheers!

gregr, you were not around when I first joined DNF and unfortunately you only know one side of the picture. But I did take responsibility for my behavior, apologized to Dan G., whom I embarrassed with my comments. I did regret my last comments but I don't believe that my persistance of using attractive ladies - dressed - as a signature image was that much of an offense.

Making 50+ posts a day is my current status as well; I don't think that's against the rules. Changing the birthday is a game; if it annoys you too much I will not do that :D

At any rate, I don't intend to cause any friction; if you have any other questions I'll be glad to answer in a PM.

I wasnt calling anybody a snipe.
After all. Why would I be fool enough to list a domain that I wanted.

I used the domain mentioned above because any of the poor souls that submitted there domains for appraisal in the last few threads would be much better off having the above metioned domain.

At least its worth something. At least for novelty if nothing else.

The snipe term in the thread subject really had nothing to do with the actual thread.

For that I'll apoligize.

Cheers!

mudfence, sorry your thread got 'hijacked'. As I said, I perceived the 'mocking' approach as a reminder of similar comments that I made in DNF last summer. Since then, I've learnt that making no comments is better than making negative comments. It was simply advice.

" ... and changing you birthday each day to the current day just to get your user name on the first page."

That is SO obvious ... figures I couldn't think of it! What a deal.
Good Luck :)

So let me get this straight?

A domain sniper is someone who, when they see someone asking advice about an unregistered domain, thinks, "I'll have that!" and registers it?

Surely that's why if you want a domain or a project appraised, you make sure it is registered first?

Sorry if this sounds *really* obvious, but it's the first time I've come across the term, so I'm just checking that this is the correct use...

David - To snipe refers to putting in a bid during the last few minutes or seconds of an auction, usually eBay.

Some people use it all the time and have good luck with it.

That is the only use of the term I know of???

Exactly, hide and shoot, hence the sniper dude from Washington DC last fall.

There is also software that automates sniping bids.

Auction sniping can be annoying. You have to be there to re-bid if you really want to win or use re-bid software. Example:

I have $200 as my maximum bid on an item, second highest bidder is at $100, so I have high bid.

Late bidders come in, and try to snipe the auction, by bidding $105, $110, $115, $120 or whatever.

I win the auction, because my max bid is still highest.

If my max bid was at $105, I would be high bidder, but lose the auction to the second sniper (earliest matching bid wins).

If you let an item sit at a few dollars above next highest bidder, chances are you'l lose it to a sniper.

Many people (myself included) start here in the Appraisals forum to check and see if what they have is worth anything, and through that they learn what's a good domain and what's a bad one.

It's easy to take for granted that there's a VAST population of people who don't even know about dropped domains, or domains with traffic, who would easily overpay for a domain or pick up a bad domain name that is 3 characters like 4l8.com.

Having said all that... are you serious!?!? 'MeRunnin.com' big thumbsdown

I'm not sure why so many people are ant-sniping. I assume it is because they don't want to bid the true value of an item. Sniping is just another technique to be used in the right circumstances. I wouldn't give out my password and trust bidding to a sniping "service" though.

I also stopped using an auction site because they had an anti-sniping option (extended the auction if a bid arrived in the last few seconds).
