iNavy.com - this has been on hold status for over a year.

seaskiff.com - I think a boat manufacturer had this but it dropped this morning.

nauticalgadgets.com

websubmittal.com

Anybody see any value in these? I probably won't develop any of them right now...my plate currently runneth over.

I work in the shipping industry; my sons sail and I am a member of a local yacht club as well as doing charity work for The Lifeboats in the UK.

Unfortunately I don't see a lot in these names - I have quite a few boating and particularly shipping names. and I do not see a huge demand for them at present. I am holding what I think are some of the better ones for the longer term (eg shipowner.com, loadline.com, tonnage.com, bulker.com, etc)

inavy is very short but I don't see any commercial potential - all the other extensions and similar ones are still available.

seaskiff and nauticalgadgets are not common terms and again I think the commercial potential is limited.

Good luck.

Thanks DavidH for the feedback. I tend to agree with you on all points except one.....I looked up the term sea skiff and apparently it is fairly common in some circles. Many of the boat manufacturers tend to have a boat or series of boats called sea skiff.

Apart from the usual large number of returns on the words at google, wordtracker shows an estimate of 600-700 monthly searches done on the term sea skiff(s) with another 6000+ on variations of the term. ..(simmons sea skiff, carolina sea skiff, chris craft sea skiff).

While that does not represent a huge number of searches in relation to something like "free adult pics", it can be a fairly significant number for a high ticket item.

Regardless, I thank you for to taking the time to provide an educating and insightful post that will probably keep me away from these types of names in the future.

Right around the virtual corner.

We'll have to get together sometime and swap domain lies.

They sound so much better in person.

DavidH,

Which sector are in shipping industry. I have a BS degree in shipbuilding engineering and have been working in shipping and transportation sector since 1993. would be nice to discuss about maritime. I have some papers and research books in tanker market and port infrastructure.

Lja,
I am confused. you say inavy.com is on hold status over a year. So how can you put an hold status domain for appraisal or for sale. Can you rereg or sale on-hold status domain. According to my knowledge once a domain passes into on-hold status ex-owner can not rereg it. Is this you who wanna sell this name on ebay.

Read number 4;

Assume that you sold this name and the buyer wants to transfer name to his registrar??

To understand this process further, let's look at the typical paths a domain name can take during its "life-cycle":

1) A domain name is registered for a fixed period of 1-10 years

2) As the expiry/renewal date approaches, the owner of the domain name is sent one or more reminders that they must pay the domain name renewal fee

3) If the domain name owner renews the name, then the domain name returns to its status in Stage 1)

4) At the renewal date, since the domain name has not been paid for and the registration has run out, the domain name is put on hold. The domain's nameserver information is deleted or modified to point to the registrar's homepage or to a page explaining that the domain name in question has expired.

Another effect of the "hold" being placed upon a domain name is that the domain name is no longer transferable to another registrar (for example, one with a lower renewal fee!)

I work in the Survey Department for one of the International Group P&I Clubs, organising condition surveys on ships and helping owners with loss prevention to minimise claims.

Thanks for the lesson SirAlex.

Actually, I wasnt trying to be confusing...I should have used the word "had" been on hold. It just dropped after being in 'hold" status for over a year.

Hope that clears it up!

Looks like the phrase sea skiff is more common in other countries than here in the UK.

Thank you for increasing my knowledge.
