Hi guys,

An internet marketer recently "lost" a domain name to a group called Oregon
Names. By losing I mean he didn't renew it on time, it expired and got deleted,
then re-registered by another.

Here's what the WHOIS details reveals (without giving the name, of course):

Registrar: FindUAName
Referral URL: http://www.finduaname.com

Domain Registrant: OregonNames ([email protected])
Domain Administrator
115 NW 1st St., Suite 300
Portland OR 97209
US
Telephone: +1.5032245909

Administrative, Technical Contact: OregonNames ([email protected])
Domain Administrator
115 NW 1st St., Suite 300
Portland OR 97209
US
Telephone: +1.5032245909

Name Server: dns1.oregonnames.com
Name Server: dns2.oregonnames.com

Domain creation date: 10-17-2005
Domain expiration date: 10-17-2006

He's looking into contacting them and see if they're amenable to selling it back
to him at whatever price. The domain's WHOIS details is a start, but I'm just
wondering if anyone knows a little more info about them to possibly help the
guy get a "little more leverage", if possible.

FindUAName looks like a "shell registrar" since all it's got is a search page and
a link to send them an email. Searching finduaname.com in WHOIS suggests
it's for Enom.

I tried searching here and the other forums but haven't had much luck.

By that you mean getting it back cheap?

LOL! Not me, it's the internet marketer I mentioned previously.

It's just that I get this gut feeling they won't reply at all; that their WHOIS
details are just to distract people inquiring about any domains they got.

Further "investigation" leads me to believe they're also a speculator. That's a
personal opinion, of course, but I'm getting warmer.

I'm just hoping someone here knows a wee bit more about them and can give
a tip on how I can "advise" the guy to contact them directly.

Stuff is correct. It is snapnames.

They went into the traffic checking business this past August.
As of today, they have 33,600 domains.

Yesterday, they grabbed 3,000 domains from the drop. They will keep maybe
50-100. Unfortunately, once they drop the domain, the other 4 to 5 traffic
checking registrars will immediately pick it up.

If it doesn't have any traffic, it might end up in Verisign's pot in 15-20 days from
the initial drop date.

If it has any traffic, it's lost forever.

Thanks, guys. I guess the guy I'm trying to help out has no chance of getting
it back then, especially since: a) he's got no registered TM, and b) he'll have
to maybe fork out a moolah to prove even just common law TM rights. :-(

Snapnames' into the game then, eh?
