I went to every whois I could think of and searched for the expiration date of foods.org, but couldn't find a thing.

Can anyone tell me how to find this info?

sometimes when its a good name it gets held by the register before it is given out to the highest bidder

Yes, curious. DotRegistrar's own site links to whois.verisign-grs.net and it shows only that DotRegistrar is the registrar. Keep us posted.
