It just seems like the .net has dropped significantly in value in just a year and there are no indications that some bigger sales for .net have occurred this year. With new TLDs like .biz and .info; and the ccTLD .us. I think we migh find ourselves in a situation where .net will become worthless (Unless you are the owner of some of the better domains or should I say best).
Any comments?

Have never really thought much of the extension myself and I would say the other new extensions won't help things for .net. Seems like its used a lot by small/hobby type sites and not really sure there is much of a corporate market at all.

Actually the .net was pretty popular for web hosting companies in the beginning. I lot of dropped and dropping domains that I have investigated shows that. But I have just like you Snoopy never been to fond of the .net, and now it seems like everyone is thinking the same.

The one thing that AfterNic has done right all year.
From offer to escrow close in 7 days.

...of course then they screw up by sending me a $large check via "snail mail"!

the domain? a .net. nj.net.

No one wants a .net these days.

With some many drops & the resulting choice in .com domains, no self respecting company would want a .net !!

I think a .biz , .info or .us is a better choice than a .net !!

Congrats on the sale Cartoonz and that Afternic was doing their job. How much did you get? Was it more than $10k?

I think .biz and .us are fine, but .info?? Are you sure, windyreddy?

How would you evaluate openaccess.net against openaccess.info, for example?

LOL, everyone obviously has different opinions on this. My 0.02 is that I would rather have a great generic .info name rather than the same generic word in all three alternatives .net, .biz and .us combined.

Trademarks.net is the best .net

Well if that is the case, then SEX.COM is the best .com :D

I recall Afternic's URLy Indicator saying nj.net was their weekly featured sale a few months ago at something like 35k. Very nice net result Cartoonz.

And the future value of .net depends on what Microsoft decides to do with it's .NET.

They might decide to TM it, and take everyone's .net names off them.

Or buy up the good ones, like webmaster.net :^)

toonz,

was that afer or before tax. you need some offsetting writeoff i can supply some names that create imediate loss.

jk

anyway why look at net as a negative overall when they should be evaluated for value the same as ony other tld. not to say
( typein links and placed names only) the market for nets being weak prohibits buying for brandability and unless generic keyword or defensive reg i stay away. Traffic and links and the rare typein are still buys in my eyes. The fact that nets are being beat up in the forum may actually lead to some good buys. The net was orginally reserved for isps i think (could be wrong) and there are a lot of dictionary words wthat work better with net.

nets used more agressivly for non critical sites when web site needed for information but not revenue critical also have seen tv shows use them more.

not fond of tld but keep my eye out for diamonds in the rough

as far as biz and info go i own a few and was very surpised to get a few inquirys on some average 2 word names. I thought they were longer term holds.

I like us as a potentialy valuable tld.

I hated hypens in a name until i sold one.

just my opinion could be very wrong

where is the spell check in this box ????
