I get emails all the time from Sedo.co.uk. They have a very nice site and I was wondering if anyone has ever used them. If so... have you had any success?

Thanks,

I have put up my domains at Sedo.co.uk. I found them very responsive and they answered all my questions within hours.

I think the emails, you get from Sedo are something, you asked for. Perhaps, you inadvertently signed up for them during their registration process (part of their permission marketing program).

I have also experienced a slight jump in email enquiries for my domains from Europe, could be Sedo sent traffic.

....they are brokers listing your names, its up to visiting buyers to buy them so if your names arent selling there, maybe you should get members opinions of your names here in the appraisal section.......(did you sell any on other broker sites?) I have my names listed at Sedo but just because they havent sold doesnt mean they provide a bad service! it means my names are not very good, otherwise you could pull down every broker on the net.....(my opinion of course :)

All i can say about them is they put one of my names in the top category for free, and it gets a lot of views. Other than that, I've only sold on Great Domains.

I have a list of names up with them, and some very mixed feelings about them. On the good side: within two days I had a good offer on a set of porn names through their site.

On the bad site:
1) Their pricing page states you have two options: either you choose for active marketing and pay 10%, or you choose for domain transfer only and you pay 3%. However, this is NOT TRUE: you must always pay 10%.

I have asked them to explain this contradiction and I never got an answer.

2) If you want to list a domain for which you want to ask more than 10K the listing is NOT FREE: you must buy an appraisal. (The alternative is not to list a price with your domain, but then you get spammed by people offering a very low price.)

I have also asked their comments on this problem and not received an answer.

I know Sedo is reading this forum, maybe they want to explain these issues here.

Hello Hans,

There is no contradiction: The 3% domain transfer fee is what we charge to handle a domain transfer (hence the name...)-- that is, if someone wishes to use Sedo to transfer/ handle escrow on a domain name that did not sell through us. This is explained on our pricing page and when you list a name with us.

In your case, your domains were Actively Marketed. This is expensive for us (hence the 10% fee). Yet it proved its efficacity by helping you sell 7 .info domains in less than 1 week.

(On a side note, selling through a broker, like any partnership, requires a bit of mutual good-will. If you want the best results from your broker, it's probably not the best idea to screw him out of the commission fee when he's helped you find a buyer for 7 of your domain names.

This is especially important if, say, there's only one broker in the world that's having any success selling .info names, and you are a big .info seller.)

But I digress... Yes, it is still totally free to list names above $10,000 as well. This restriction is intended to keep prices realistic, but to list a name for more you simply need to check it with us-- but oops, there's that problem about offending your broker again...

------
P.S: Sorry to vent on you, Hans (I guess those mixed feelings are mutual! )-- you do have some great names and it's a privilege for us to help you sell them. But please recognize that a broker's commission fee is NOT just for the transfer and escrow. We've incurred a long line of expenses just to make possible that moment when buyer and seller meet (marketing, development, service, etc...)

If you don't see my point, try going to Escrow and asking, "Why aren't you doing anything to find buyers for my domains??!"

Good luck,

~Matthew

I use Sedo.co.uk and have not been spammed. I've appreciated the civility of the few communications I've had with them, though I have personally yet to see any results from their active marketing.

All the best!

Matthew,

Thanks for answering my questions now. I do not want to start a flame war here, but I would like to comment on a few of your remarks. I hope that some of my remarks in this response can be constructive to improve the communications between Sedo and me and to improve Sedo's services.

Firstly, I have no problems with paying commissions to a broker if I am convinced that this is a good deal. I own about 300 Dutch Info names and I sell them through a broker who even takes 20%. I have worked with him for a year and I know he is worth his money to me.

In the Sedo case however, your pricing page is in my eyes misleading. It very much reads as if sellers have the option to choose between a bare listing at 3% or a listing inclusive Active Marketing at 10%. Also the page where a seller can enter their domain names shows a tick box to select/unselect the Active Marketing program at 10%. Only it is now impossible to unselect this tick box, as discussed in another thread on this forum.
I have no problem with Sedo asking 10%, I do have a problem with your website listing a 3% alternative that is not available.

The second problem is about listing domains with a value over 10K. You now state that this is possible, for free, when discussed with Sedo. This is exactly what I have asked for in a personal email to you. Only you have never answered this email.

In summary, I think we can work things out to continue working together. I still think Sedo is the best place to sell German Info's and possibly also for English Info's. But in this domain business where there are many dubious companies around it is very important that you show you are an absolutely honest and reliable enterprise.

If you are still interested in hearing my advice, I would like to give you the following suggestions to consider:
1) Make it clear on your pricing page that the 3% option is NOT available to people who list their names on your site.
2) Remove the "Active Marketing Option" tick box on the domain listing page.
3) Explain on the site that high-value domains with their asking prices can also be listed without mandatory appraisal.
4) Answer your emails.
5) Stop spamming people.

Looking forward to your response :)
Hans

I think I've got some domains with Sedo, but they never write to me about them. I may even have sold them by now.
