I have some clients that i am trying to place in different geo areas and was wondering if anyone uses this tag
<META NAME="location"

I have used this info on some geo's, still to early to tell if there is a significant improvement

<meta name="geo.placename" content="Unionville, Markham, ON L3R, Canada" />
<meta name="geo.position" content="43.869137;-79.309172" />
<meta name="geo.region" content="CA-ON" />
<meta name="ICBM" content="43.869137, -79.309172" />

any past experience appreciated

Never tried that. Generally if you've set the geotargeting on Google Webmaster Tools for the domain, setup a Google Places page for the site (and verified the address), and included an address somewhere on the website, you should be covered pretty well.
