My kids been bugging me for some time to get her a ipod touch, so this year I got her one for when she passes school. And while researching options I thought way cool my birthday is this month so why not, so I charge my new ipod touch up and went a got some nice earbuds for both of us.

My ipod detech 3 of my wifi gateways the one I use for my dell mini so I know for a fact it works, I had to put all the right info into it to work, so I type in my password no the ipod says incorrect uers name password. So I keep trying and no joy no problem I'll just take a break, and put some songs on it and play them awhile.

Well you have to use itunes not only that, but it will not let you hook up to itunes with a USB cable even, I started feeling like smashing it as I kept getting more and more upset as it would not hookup to my wifi, so I do a search lots and lots of people having the same problem.

So I looked on apples site under support for the problem under FAQ's for help, they just keep saying check your router, ISP, everything under the sun and noon but their ipod touch that is clearly the problem, if they done a net search they would see the ipod has problems with wifi.

I'll try tomorrow again and I'll be looking into hacking it as well, I know they used a linux os with options they hide, I can't believe they would not let you connect with out wifi to put anything on it. Then have units with wifi hookup problems, and not do a update fix or even help getting it working right.

Good luck...I couldn't live without my itouch!

If it is as bad as OP says - Apple would be out of business.

It shouldn't ask for a username. It will detect available wi-fi networks and then ask you for the security key if you try to connect.

I'm not saying the ipod is junk at all it's pretty cool and I'm sure I'll love it to death, I was pointing out apple is worthless when it comes to online support for wifi with it, but yet the ipod is not much good with out wifi for it.

I'm sure I'll get it working and it and it may well be some routers just like the ones I use, but apple doing a small update would of fixed them problems easy, I think as was said it's get some settings mixed up or some thing like that.

Not sure why apple would post an update to a problem that is not a problem in the software.

You are either doing something wrong or the ipod you purchased is a lemon.

Did you buy it directly from Apple or an authorized outlet?

If you did, then it is under warranty.

Send it back.

If you bought it on ebay or something like that, then good luck.

Make sure you are starting out with loading all drivers on the ipod and computer and make sure those are in communication with each other (syncing)

If you bought it second hand and it is asking for a password, then someone else set that up and locked everyone else out.

I have had zero problems with an Apple products.

And make sure your wifi toggle button is turned on (should be in blue with white letters) under Settings >>> WiFi

Once the WiFi is on, it will search for available networks.

You must select which network you want to connect to. When you make that selection, a checkmark will appear to the left of the network you selected.

I got it brand new from a ebay dealer if the warranty is needed it's through apples site, but it's not a defect I'm sure it's with some routers drivers only I'm sure, the update would be to tell the ipod about any router drivers it may not read right.

It's said my ipod was up to date but come to think of it it also said, I could upgrade it to 3.XX for $5 if I wanted to so may be I'll do that, this reminds me of the good old days of using modems and having to set and reset settings till it worked. :)

Sure, if a warranty is needed it is through Apple's site FOR A FEE!

You could have gotten a returned item that the seller is claiming works perfectly.

You can get refubs from Apple and even Amazon (via Apple) that are covered by warranty and have super easy return policies.

If you bought it on ebay from someone who is NOT an authorized Apple re-seller and there is something wrong with it, you eat the money you paid for it as well as the iPod.

Give me a break. My kid hooked his up by himself.

You got a bad one (very, very unusual), or you are not doing something right. An i-touch is about as basic as it gets.
I agree...they are so intuitive that it should work immediately.

You can put in your ipod SN# in on their site and check if it has a real warranty or not, you can set up sending it in and all online even check the closest place, there one about 38 miles from my house that does warranty work. Some one was selling broken 8 GB ones on ebay for $100, it still had 6 months left to get it fixed under the warranty I was thinking about getting it, just set up a time online then drive there and get the new one but thought I better not.

Anyway I got it working on my wifi and it's pretty odd deal, it found my router and ask for the password but kept not taking it, after researching and rebooting/setting everything and taking all #'s off the bottom of my DSL router. This time it ask for the password, but no it don't really want the password at all that apples code for WEP # off the bottom of the router. BINGO, we got joy!!!!!!!

I think I got what happen though, since it didn't get the password from me for the password protected wifi router, the only way it could of got it was from it being stored on the router it self. My DSL router has the password store on it and the WEP # told it where to find it, this is cool as I should not need to keep signing in now, had the ipod ask for the WEP # there would not have been any problems hooking up at all though. I tried surfing and I love it and the browser so far works great, it loads pages pretty darn fast, shows photos really nice as well, plus if you can see it and tap it works. :)

>> Now you have no warranty ;-) <<

Yes it will if some thing goes wrong you restore it back, if it a brick then they will not be able to see it's been jailbroken.

>> Nothing works like the directions. <<

Yes if only they give a code book with it, to tell me when they ask for the password it's really code for, get the WEP # on the bottom of your router and use that for the password. Good thing I know how to research problems, and found out what password was code for if it didn't take the real password.

But all that ends well, is well and it ended well.

Edited In: WOW I forgot today is my birthday, till DNF emailed me a happy birthday. :)

So far it's the coolest toy I got for the money, I got a cell phone that cost me the same price and don't have most of the stuff the ipod does, AT&T plans still cost way to much or I would get a iphone.
