Achieving Steve Jobs' long-held dream of creating a tablet device as cool and useful as the one we've seen for years on science fiction shows now appears to be a dream realized, in the form of the iPad. Ironically, the iPad makes the iPhone -- Apple's game-changing technology of 2007, whose impact still reverberates through the wireless, mobile, and computing industries -- obsolete. And as the iPhone fades away as a short-lived marvel, so too will disappear the mobile Web

yeah right. i won't be carrying something as big as the ipad around. i don't even like the full size blackberries. they're just too big to always have on you.

Yeah, I would be dropping & possibly losing my ipad all the time if I carried it around like a book...this may create a line of clothing.

The only way mobile web or the iphone is going to die because of the ipad, is if someone literally picks up a ipad and beats the two to death. the thing is junk.

i invested $$$$ in .mobi and defended for a long time, until iPhone showed us we don't need .mobi - i made some of my money back.. .mobi is history! It will be used to promote mobile sites, but the issue is, a lot of us thought .mobi will gain value like the .com did... unfortunately .mobi is just another extension on the market... end users will not pay us the price tag we had imagined!

i have never owned any "i device", no ipod or iphone, which means i don't need apps or itunes :)

ipad, as it is now, is for suckers

imo...

I think I purchased maybe 3 .mobi's and that was a couple years ago, unless there is one I really liked.

Right now, the only .mobi I own is hdm.mobi (HD Movies, WEEEE), let the others drop.

Not really sure how the iphone was the one who showed we didn't need .mobi, considering any other phone you used before and after the iphone, even if you went to the .com still transfered you to either the mobile site, or the standard site if it didn't have a mobile version. Sidekick's for example. Even though their web browser was horrid.

.mobi has nothing to do with this. if there is no mobile web then that hurts all of domains including .com. most mobile sites are .com. Apps hurt all domain names not just .mobi. everything is headed towards mobile. In the future there will probably only be mobile web and apps.

Um, wouldn't ya know it - the iPad is the mobile web.

And saying the iPad makes the iPhone obsolete...well, who wants to be seen walking down the street with that big sucker up near your ear.

Can ya' hear me now?

Once more, proclaimer of not only the death of mobi, but also the iPhone, and now the mobile web.

Seriously, hope...isn't it a little hopeless to think you need to be plugged into an electrical outlet and have a cable/dsl modem to connect to the iPad?

Thus, I give you the mobile web.

Very Sweet, Petro!

I like Lenovo and have a g550.

Yeah, get a notebook/netbook like this and give it a try. Looks to be worth the price, unless the Atom processor is a poorer performer than the iPad.

Apple wants to control everything that goes into the iPad (which I can not blame).

And, the Lenovo is upgradable in memory and speed (?) which I do not believe is possible on the iPad.

Asus has a similar model
