We've all seen appraisal scams but this one I'm not sure of, Please tell me what you think;

Dear sir,

we are interested to buy your domain name MYDOMAIN.COM and offer to buy it from you for 65% of the appraised market value.

As of now we accept appraisals from either one of the following leading appraisal companies:

sedo.com
pozde.com
moniker.com
accuratedomains.com

If you already have an appraisal please forward it to us.

As soon as we have received your appraisal we will send you our payment (we use Paypal for amounts less than $2,000 and escrow.com for amounts above $2,000) as well as further instructions on how to complete the transfer of the domain name.

We appreciate your business,

Thanks,

Mark Brown

Scam!

Offer that you'll do the appraisal if they'll front the money for it. ;)

They "get" you by requesting you to do an appraisal though one of their sources (I'm willing to bet it'll be the least expensive ones) and then they'll say "Oh, it's not what we want".

Nah, I won't merge it. The more exposure these scams get the better the chance that people won't fall for them. :)

I got 2 of these today from the same person.

This is funny but as we speak I just got another one. From another name and email. And they are using old information as I don't even own this domain any longer. Definitely a scam.

Here is the email.

Dear sir,

we are interested to buy your domain name ADOTZ.COM and offer to buy it from you for 70% of the appraised market value.

As of now we accept appraisals from either one of the following leading appraisal companies:

sedo.com
pozde.com
moniker.com
accuratedomains.com

If you already have an appraisal please forward it to us.

As soon as we have received your appraisal we will send you our payment (we use Paypal for amounts less than $2,000 and escrow.com <http://escrow.com/> for amounts above $2,000) as well as further instructions on how to complete the transfer of the domain name.

We appreciate your business,

Thanks,

adotz.com was a horrible domain. LOL That's why I know for certain it was scam. :) I have no clue why I bought that domain other than the .com part.

Mine was actionshooting dot com, The ONLY place I ever posted this domain was here on DNF for an appraisal;

It has a wikipedia article and is somehow generic. They are just assembling large lists and sending out mass emails. Wouldn't make much sense to email domainers with that

They might be using this forum as a "feed" (for the lack of a better term) for their spams - see who is selling / looking for appraisals, get the WhoIs and then spam away.

These spammers/scammers are still active which means that there are people who actually do order an appraisal in order to sell their names to these guys lol...

Who are these people(who get scammed)? If you're one of them instead of buying appraisals from spammers/scammers donate your complete paypal fund to a good cause http://www.aicr.org.uk/donate.aspx

Cheers,
ARMG
