Arbitrator sides with Baylor in domain dustup
By BRAD HEM
The owner of five Web sites with names related to Baylor University has been ordered to transfer them to the school because the domain names are confusingly similar to Baylor's sites and the owner has no legitimate interest in the names.
The domain names â baylorbearssuck.com, baylorbears.net, baylorbears.tv, baylorbears.biz and baylorbears.name â all forwarded users to Texas A&M's aggieathletics.com, as of this afternoon.
The order to transfer ownership came from the National Arbitration Forum, which handles domain name disputes under agreements with the companies that sold the name rights.
The owner, identified in documents only as "JS," claimed he was a Baylor alumnus and had planned to use the sites for alumni social networks but never had enough money to do so, according to the arbitration forum's decision. The site owner can appeal the decision in court.
