Are all single pluralized words that are in the dictionary in their pluralized form, no matter how absurd the word, worth more then registration costs as a Dot Com and are they easily sell able? In this case, the pluralized version of the word has more hits then the singular but its still very low. I appologize for not listing the word but I keep getting hassled from the Forum Moderator for listing domain names in this Subforum.

In other words & the word I'm talking about is 1 Hundred times more obscure then say aardvarks.com, worth something?

Your probably right, I deserve that, lol. That's $15 with private registration down the drain. I was shocked to accidently find a scramble word that still could be a .com domain that I just had to buy it. Buying a domain name that's hard to spell that few people know what it means or have heard the term, that has no practical applications, how could that fail? Oh, well, that's showbiz.

First, why are you paying $15.00?

Too much and sounds like your using GoDaddy ($9.99 reg, $4.95 privacy).

Secondly, switch. Moniker is $7.44 on dot com, $1.00 privacy.

Thirdly, "taste". See if there is any traffic inherent to the domain. Every once in a while you will get lucky. Most of the time not for fresh regs.

Fourthly, if there is no traffic, toss it back. Cost is $0.25 per domain and you have 96 hours (4 days) at Moniker, 5 days at others.

Fifthly, why are you using privacy? Unless something is a closely held secretive domain or inflammatory by nature, I never use privacy. You end up losing sales this way if someone can not contact you looking up the WHOIS info. Some places charge nothing for privacy.

Lastly, you are learning some expensive lessons.

I don't think all is lost though, I think with a bit of work you could make your money back, probably with interest.

You could develop the site into the unofficial gestaltist resource site. Go to the library and read up on the subject, then write all you know about the subject (do NOT plagiarize) - then get an amazon reseller account and add links to books on the subject (amazon lists 879 books).

Getting to number 1 in a google search for gestaltist(s) will be easy even for a complete novice. There must be students searching for that and you might be lucky if a university offers a course on the subject. You can even try for phrases like "the sum of parts is .greater than the whole".

Experiment with different books and see what sells best, try to add content whenever you are bored.

A site making >$150 per year must be worth more than the reg fee but a domain by itself probably isn't.

EDIT : LOL Dot Com - your sig is perfect! :eek:k:

Thanks for letting me know about Moniker. I'll definitely check it out. What I like about GoDaddy is the Customer Service but Moniker from what you say, sounds like a better deal which I wish I had known about 80 domains earlier! As far as Private Registration I'm totally paranoid & I've had my share of people I didn't want to know and/or bother/annoy me. The other week I had some psycho girl on Ebay bother me by emailing me repeatedly till I told her I'd report her, that an autographed photo I was selling on Ebay of Mick Jagger & Keith Richards was a fake without showing me why/providing any proof, when I had gotten it from someone who had gotten it in person & even offered a 30 day guarantee. Like I'm suppose to take the word of a non-bidding stranger who can't mind her own business and or doesn't bother to offer me any proof. Furthermore in her original email she called me names etc. and I never had any dealings with this person, prior to her emails to me. That's the world unfortunately I live in and will gladly protect my privacy from these losers. I'm glad its not your world! As to developing the site- it's just not worth my time. Of the 8o or so domain names I registered, of which 50 I totally regret, I'm going to develop at least 10 of them into eCommerce sites via Zeus & Amazon's The Easy Store. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

I agree with Dot Com. Listen to his pointers and you'll do fine...if you don't then you'll lose a ton of cash-o-la!

Hi

Continuing to take "stabs" at DNForum staff will not earn you any points with the members.

It will only earn you warning points, which may lead to the termination of your membership.

I suggest, you review the posts which you have made since joining this forum, and assess what YOU have brought to the table.

Hopefully, in 2008 you will understand what this forum is about.
