Someone told me that some ccTLD may be delayed 1-2 days, does anyone know whether this is true? If so, which ccTLD's would this apply for?

Thanks

Not all ccTLD's update realtime, or even within minutes. In the past few years, there has been some improvement though. For instance .NL is now updated within minutes, instead of 4 times a day (which was the case 1 year ago). It mostly depends on the registry interface. Whenever a realtime interface is used, like EPP, they usually update whois in realtime as well.

The NL registry is not yet using EPP, but they are going to by the end of this year. BE, EU, DE, CO.UK, are all (almost) realtime.

If you would like to know more on what ccTLD's are not updating whois realtime, please be a little more specific. There are a lot of them ;-)

Last year, something weird had happened to an .es domain I owned. I had paid for renewal to my registrar, the registrar HAD renewed the domain but the red.es WHOIS was not updated. What happened was that the domain passed the expiration date and still did not expire, even though the expiration date shown had passed!! About 2 weeks AFTER its expiration date the information was updated... I kept having control of the domain at all times though...

The ES registry is a very 'funny' one. There renewal system is quite out of the ordinary. It allows users to renew even though the registrar doesn't. In fact, a registrar can't delete a domain at all, perhaps that is why you kept control. We have the same thing going on. Clients asking us to renew, domains that have already expired. We can still renew them weeks after expiration dates, because they haven't been deleted.

Another funny thing, I personally have been emailing with the registry and kept getting messages back that my email was considered spam. I telephoned, mailed, faxed, etc. They told me to send 5 emails instead of one. A little later, they told me that it had to be something in the email content making it appear to be spam. They suggested that it was our signature, perhaps did we have pictures in it? We have a very basic text only signature, so that wasn't the case.

After 1,5 year, somebody at the registry actually took a look and found out: it was their own signature and their own registry logo image that was rejected by the spam filter. Me replying to their email, including their message AND their signature, caused my email to appear to be spam!

I must say, I couldn't help but smile after hearing this.
