I'm a fairly fast typer, but have often wondered if I could save time writing articles by using speech / voice recognition software. I have never used any of the available programs out there, so I have no idea how accurate they are. Does anyone have any experience using them? If so, can you recommend a specific product?

I doubt it. If there was a good one I am sure Google would be using it what with all the money they have to buy a good voice system. The one they use for Google Voice is not good with ongoing screwed-up words, names in particular are usually bad.

Dragon Naturally Speaking, once you've spent a few hours training it to the quirks of your own voice, achieves something in the region of 98% accuracy.

^^ This. Dragon Naturally Speaking.

It was just OK when I was using it back in 2007. They should have improved it by now.
It was very frustrating for a few weeks. Extremely frustrating. The keys were (1) to speak phrases than individual words, (2) to speak the same phrases again and again, and (3) to build the vocabulary.
There were multiple versions at that time, the higher priced version had a lot more features useful to us (content creators/web masters).
It has been almost 3 years. I don't use it anymore. But (back then), that was the ONLY product which was somewhat good.
