Jp extension is strong, cn is strong

ah. Yea, that is a good point. What companies only import/export/work with only the asian countries...? I think Asia is comfortable using its own domain extension and a few other tlds. What the heck...im gonna get only a few..A FEW.

There is going to be a .asia rush, just as there was with .mobi. It's easy to tell that ICANN is getting desperate because they are coming out with 4 letter extensions. How in the world did .mobi and .asia pass, but .xxx failed? .xxx makes the most sense out of any of the three. Every porn site could be moved over to the .xxx extension.

Anyways, I'm sure there will be the landrush of people registering useless .asia domains. In my opinion, the only ones that will be valuable are the ones that are geographically related to Asia, ie. cities, etc.

It will only work in IDN.IDN otherwise there is little or no point to it. People need to know what language and script they can expect to end up in.

The successful roll-out of future extensions is going to depend much on how .EU and .Mobi perform. Dot EU doesn't seem to be much used, and dot Mobi has been driven skywards on what appears to be ill-informed speculation. If Mobi crashes and burns you can expect very limited interest in future offering.

The basic point is that are just not needed. The familiar extension of .com/.net/.org are more than capable of filling the slack in their IDN forms for the foreseeable future in Asia. What these do not satisfy will be filled by the ccTLDs.

Well, if you keep buying them, sure as hell they will keep selling them.

Strikes me the more people buy, the less their portfolios are actually going to be worth!

ICANN doesn't make the extensions. Businesses propose a tld and pay the application fee to ICANN. It doesn't mean it will get approved.

The group that started the .xxx registry has been pissed at ICANN. They lost tons of money.

Bottom line is that dot Asia will come after the surge in IDN registrations in Asia, if indeed you believe there will be such a surge.

It is to succeed in a meaningful way, it will have to launch as an IDN Registry. If it is launch as just another ASCII extension, then it will only appeal to the vast numbers of US "Domainers" who have jumped on the bandwagon, without having a clue what they are trying to achieve. If that is the case it will blossom for a few weeks and then wither on the Vine.

If it is launched in an IDN format, I would find it the most attractive IDN extension after dots com, cn and jp.
