I wrote Commission Junction to ask a simple question:
"I'm using geo-targeting to improve conversions on other networks, do you have any experience with this, or should I just restrict CJ advertisers to US English speaking audiences?"
They replied:
"Thank you for your inquiry. As a free service to publishers, Commission Junction does not offer marketing assistance."
I was kind of expecting, "some advertisers setup different smart zones for different companies" or to tell me about a neat new feature. Instead I get nothing.

Has anyone been able to improve CTR and conversion restricting Commission Junction advertisers to just US English? It's hard to tell if they are serving an International audience, but they do talk about geo-targeting in their merchants documentation.

When I call my other affiliate managers, they are open to share ideas that improve conversion. It would seem increasing conversion for merchants would be part of their job.

Anyone making money on CJ outside the US? Has anyone found restricting impressions to certain markets has improved their CTR and conversion?

Best,

Justin

I push a few CJ products down under. Frustratingly, the majority of their options are things that ship to Australia from the US, instead of being actual Australian products. ClixGalore may suck generally, but they at least have actually Australian offers.

Back to CJ!

Yes, geo-targetting DOES increase CTR, especially if you're pushing an item or offer that's similar to something that's been in the local news.
Keep an eye on Google Trends to see what you should be pushing in specific regions for spot trading ;)

Harvey,

ClixGalore may suck generally, but they at least have actually Australian offers.
ClixGalore owns 30% of my AU traffic. I've also found most other networks are more diverse than CJ. My traffic (B2B sales related sites, english language) balances around US, UK, CA, AU, and IN.

Yes, geo-targetting DOES increase CTR, especially if you're pushing an item or offer that's similar to something that's been in the local news.
I found a reference to CJ's "Advanced Search" deep in their documentation. It will allow you to filter offers by country and language. With this I'm setting up country specific smart zones for my highest volumes.

It would have saved me a bit of trouble for them to just say "use the advanced search to filter by language and country, setup multiple smart zones one per targeted country." It makes me think they don't know much about their own network.

Wishing you all the best,

Justin
