I had backordered a domain through 4 different companies and it was picked up by Snapnames, which was no surprise considering it was previously registered with them.

So yesterday it went into a 3-day auction because other people had backordered it as well.

The starting bid is $64 and I'm currently the high bidder.

What can I expect in the next two days? Please give me advice how to handle this and hopefully land the domain in my court.

Many thanks!

From my experience most bidding activity begins 5-10 minutes before the end of the auction. If there are already multiple bidders going for the domain then I would expect some competition toward the end. Keep in mind that anytime someone places a bid within the last 5 minutes of the auction, the end time is extended by 5 minutes.

I guess the best piece of advice I could give you (if you don't want to place a high proxy bid) is to make sure your somewhere with a reliable internet connection at least 10 minutes before the end of the auction monitoring it and placing bids when necessary. Don't rely on e-mail notifications to let you know if you've been outbid.

Thanks! Do you know if there is a set starting bid (like $64) entered by SnapNames or did someone actually make that bid?

I believe the minimum bid at Snapnames is $59.00. I'm not sure what their bid increments are because I rarely use them, but if it is $5.00 for domains under $100 then a $64.00 bid would make sense. If you're listed as the high bidder at $64.00 then I would assume that is your bid - unless I'm missing something here.

Okay, that makes sense. My bid is actually higher so I guess nobody has bid against me yet. Gotta keep an eye at the end. Thanks for your input.

I just won the domain at $64. There were two bidders at $59 and my bid at $64 (although my bid would have gone quite higher if needed).

I prefer to keep it private but it's myXXX.com (replace the x's with an area code). It probably doesn't make sense to you why I would bid for such a domain but I will use it for a local website.

That's great. Congrats. It's always a nice feeling when you win an auction.. and at a reasonable price.

Thanks! Yes, it's the first time I'm in a SnapNames auction. Beginners luck I guess. The domain is probably worth less than I paid in other markets but I'm surprised there weren't more people in my location that were bidding. That domain will have a lot of local value.

you will be surprised i picked up a generic two word country specific name which has natural type in traffic for less than $100 and to be honest to anybody from Britain in this business it is the perfect domain and you could not get any better......So you will be surprised what you can get but remember it only takes two people with same idea for a domain to run into thousands of dollars.......

Yes, at the moment the region I live in is very NOT internet savvy. Once the general population and business catch up I believe my recent domain acquisitions will have a lot more value. Since the stock market is bust I might as well invest in the Internet. :approve:

They started doing this couple of month ago for partner drops and private sales, and they plan to do same with PENDINGDELETEs
