Automated Content Management Questions

Does anyone have opinions on or resources for automated content systems (i.e auto blog feeder)? I just discovered that this animal existed and wanted to find some feedback prior to jumping in.

I've used WordPress as a CMS for years and probably have a couple dozen running now, but I manage them all manually and am always combing for fresh content.

An automated process would certainly speed up the development process, but not at the expense of quality or functionality.

Any search engine consequences?
