Hahaha! I didn't know they could be tamed like that. Awesome how he just kicks back on the dash of the car while they head to work. :D

My mom nursed one that fell out of the nest really, really young. Not quite as bonded as these two, but bonded just the same. At first she kept him in a cage, then he perched on a tree and eventually would go from limb to limb. But everyday he'd come to eat, climb up her leg, play, etc. Neighbors would even come watch. It was pretty cool. One day, damn thing just freaking flipped out and attacked her! That was the end of that!

My wife used to do wildlife rehab (and I got drafted into it when we started to live together). We did squirrels a few times and would normally release them in her parent's backyard (wooded, large plot etc..). They would stay tamed - often come down to visit us (and her family).

But - some would get spoiled. If you gave them something they didn't like (wrong nut or piece of fruit) they'd throw it back at you.

I should put the pics I have on photobucket.

draggar: Yeah! That's kinda what happened! After that, he hung around our house for years and years and would still come up to you and take an acorn out of your hand or pecan. But also that's exactly what happened with my mom. He didn't like what she was trying to give him and he flipped out! Attacked her hand and then her leg! Then perched from a limb he was cackling at her! From then on, at least until he was pretty much on his own, she'd just put some food in a cup nailed to a tree.

Thay are so cute. The real shame is that the red squirrel (as opposed to grey) has virtually vanished in the UK. And now the 'environmental factions' and the government's policy on 'vermin' is that grey squirrels should be 'eradicated'. So when you hear pleas from the 'sustainable environment' lobby regarding the squirrel population -- 'cock a snoot'. I could put that in different language but will refrain. Don't want to make this political.

Enjoy the little critters that share this planet with you.

Maybe that's where the saying "it went nuts" comes from.
