How effective has shutting down bad whois records via the ICANN/Internic reporting service been for you?

I noticed that Dotster has the following DNS on a domain I reported.

NS1.BADWHOISSHUTDOWN.COM
NS2.BADWHOISSHUTDOWN.COM

Problem is, the name is not deleted, just allowed to go on indefinite suspension.

Just another indication that the powers that be in Domain Land (ICANN, DoC, Registries, Registrars) don't consider anything Domainers do (or report) as worthy of the least attention or consideration. As far as they're concerned, we are here for them to use and abuse, take our money and that's all.

Some registrars ignore these reports, eg Register.com. But most do something when notified - they don't delete the names, just put them on permafreeze.

So what the heck is permafreeze? Isn't the policy that they notify the registrant and he's suppose to CORRECT the false or wrong Whois info or the name gets deleted? That's the problem overall that I see. There is NO action taken against registrars that set up whatever policy they want and to heck with whatever they are "suppose" to do.

Of course registry/registrars can do the heck with their names, ICANN doesn't have the time to do bollocks policing. They claim they need more money too, so who is going to foot the bill? Ding ding! Ka-ching.

Don't blame ICANN, after all they have their hands full planning their next exotic adventure.

Mole,

I have mixed feelings about the reporting of bad whois.

Sometimes, I will notice where there is incorrect whois on purpose.
(12345 anywhere road, NY, NY phone 123-123-1234)

But, I also notice where people complain for their own advantage.

For example, I have the .net for a domain. The owner of the .com
wants the domain because he thinks I'm getting some of his traffic.
(one word domain)

So, he registered a complaint because my phone number goes into an
answering machine*. So, he said it was a non-working phone number.

*Since, I don't sell my domains, I don't need to hear all of offers, threats,
and complaints. Nor, offers for related products.

True, I myself complain because I want the name to drop back into the pool so that I can catch it.

However, it is apparent that registrars, on the other hand, squirrel away domains that should drop back to the public for their own benefit.

So between the sith and the jedi, some counterbalancing is needed.
