hi

there is no best newsletter, imo...

each writer has different styles and different opinions

each writer gives his/her perspective based on their experiences

each writer hopes that "his/her" newsletter will be the most read or most subscribed to...or may just hope to get a following

i think if you need advice or are just looking for some in-depth reading, then read them all, and decide which you found to be most informative.

while looking, notice:

which didn't say the same thing as the next

which isn't try to "come-up", off the "already established glory" of some other publication, by getting one of their buddies to post a link here.

news isn't so much what someone else can tell you, it's also about what you can find for yourself.

for the examples you mentioned and others, if you're a part of general conversations with those persons who write newsletters or at least have access to them, then it wouldn't be so important.

because you would already know their perspectives, motivations, directions, sucesses and failures. the things they think will happen, the trends and negotiating tactics.

also, too much focus on other people's glory can distract you from your own mission... that's if you ever have time to form one, while reading others peoples newsletters.

this reply is not directed at you in particular, it's a response to the general idea that any one newsletter is "the best". so when i use the word "you" it does not mean "chillking" ;)

all that said.

i do read sedo's newsletter and i've read a few from BD/Afternic.

if any others post, please do not link the site.

That is the real answer ...

each writer has different styles and different opinions

each writer gives his/her perspective based on their experiences

each writer hopes that "his/her" newsletter will be the most read or most subscribed to...or may just hope to get a following

So you have to choose what is right for you.

I would like to suggest one more thought - no quality newsletter will last that can't be monetized. So you can/should also evaluate how you react to different ways that people choose to monetize their newsletter.

Is it 100% Subscription based?
Is it 100% Advertiser supported?
Are their Paid Reviews?
What is the economic relationship between author and industry?

For example, I have no problem turning on the "Sales Hype" filter and simply reading between the lines to filter out what is hype, what is market positioning (i.e. what do they want me to think), what is a sales pitch, etc. ... because in-between, it is possible to find some quality information.

However, not everyone wants to have to filter all of that "crud" out - or perhaps may not feel experienced enough to know what is hype and what is reality ... so some may prefer a subscription based model where they know that the source is truly independent (i.e. not being paid by the industry they are reporting on and not being advertiser supported by the industry they are reporting on).

Others may simply not have the time to filter out that "crud" and may find their time is well worth the price of a subscription ...

Indirectly - that is why I originally spent the money to join DNForum - because I wanted a source of reliable and trustworthy information that was not going to be biased by advertisers and by what they want to sell. You can make your own judgment about whether that is true today of DNForum.

While I personally may be able to turn on the Hype Filter - I prefer the subscription model for long term sustainability and credibility in the source.

So I would add to your criteria - the screening tool of what is the newsletter's monetization model - so you know what you are getting ...
