The problem with domaintools (whois.sc) is that they COLLECT search results and sell them from what I found out!

well I use unix "whois" which automagically queries the authoritative database for each ext, verisign for com/net, Public Interest Registry for org etc

safe and fast

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I find it surprising that Name Intelligence would do this. They should be more sensitive to domainers' interests than to sell the WHOIS query data.

Of course they do, its their whole business model.
You subscribe to domaintools to have access to their whois history database.

Showing which domains have been looked up in the past by displaying a WHOIS history is MUCH different than selling a database of all the domains that get searched.
