Can anyone tell me what the meaning of Bestimmung is? I see a variety of definitions, but was hoping a native German speaker could help clarify.

Well, I am not german but I do speak it. I would say it means 'destiny' or
"destination".

You could use it as follows:

I am going to Florida on vacation, what is your "bestimmung" for the vacation.

It translates as 'where are you going to on vacation"

Hope this helps.

Bestimmung is not used oftenly as destination.
Bestimmungsort/Ziel is destination.
Bestimmung can also be a ascertainment in science.
but indeed:
Bestimmung is destiny.
To be a actor is my destiny/Bestimmung.

Thanks for the detailed response Daniel. Destiny makes sense - and has a whole realm of development possibilities.

you are welcome.
destiny is mostly "Schicksal" in German, but sometimes it is "Bestimmung".
Schicksal is mostly bad. Bestimmung can be something good or sth. bad but I think it is mostly good.
